A word-picture from South America in less than 100 words, as featured on Guardian:Unlimited
Ruta 7, out of the tunnel darkness into lunar landscape, stony soaring mountains, winding highway, Stone Temple Pilots beat. Bronzed sun, ice blue sky, corkscrew up and up dusty red stony track, catching breath, Cristo Redentor, fluttering flags of Chile and Argentina. Puente del Inca sulphur bridge, livid petrified shoes, fuzzy alpaca knits, bubbling hot springs. Aconcagua. Stone Capuchins towering above Wild West alpine buildings. Racing the red river down. Tupungato. Inca road, tumbling stream, Picheuta bridge, echoing ancient battles. Mountains flatten, road widens, new dam, smooth turquoise water. Through scrubland desert into oasis city, tree-lined avenues of Mendoza. ****************************** Steph Davies 2005 This article is not to be reproduced in part or in full without my express, written permission and agreed payment. ******************************
